Adds four RS-232 serial ports via Universal PCI with SUN1999 controller and 128-byte FIFO
The SUNIX SER5056A+L is a universal PCI expansion card that adds four independent RS-232 serial ports to a desktop computer. It uses the SUN1999 controller, which is compatible with the 16C950 UART, and supports PCI 3.0, 2.3, 2.2 and 2.1 at 33 MHz on both 3.3 V and 5 V slots.
This card suits users connecting industrial machinery, point-of-sale hardware or older modems that require DB-44 RS-232 signalling with full hardware flow control. It is not for systems that lack a conventional PCI slot or for applications that need USB, parallel or other interface types.
Each port operates from 50 bps up to 115.2 Kbps with 128-byte hardware FIFO and configurable data, stop and parity bits. The 115.2 Kbps ceiling determines whether the card can meet the throughput demands of a specific serial device.
