Professional Monitoring Headphones

The Superlux HD 681 is a semi-open dynamic headphone built for studio monitoring and critical listening. Its 50mm neodymium drivers deliver detailed sound reproduction across the frequency range. The circumaural cups cover the ears fully while the semi-open architecture allows controlled airflow for a natural stereo image. This design suits engineers and musicians who need accurate reference audio.

Lightweight Comfort and Passive Cooling

A self-adjusting headband distributes weight evenly without manual sizing steps. The lightweight frame reduces pressure during extended sessions and the semi-open vents prevent heat build-up around the ears. No active electronics or batteries are required so there is no self-noise or power draw. The durable construction tolerates twisting for single-ear cueing without creaking.

Consistent Response During Long Sessions

The semi-open enclosure maintains stable driver behaviour when used continuously at monitoring levels. Bass extension remains controlled because the rear wave is partially vented rather than trapped. Mid-range clarity and treble detail do not compress as the ear pads warm up. The headband tension stays constant so the acoustic seal and frequency balance are preserved over hours of use.

Questions about this item

How do I adjust the self-adjusting headband on the HD 681 for single-ear monitoring?

Extend the headband until the ear cup rests comfortably, then rotate one cup away from the ear; the flexible frame holds the position without a locking mechanism.

Which part of the HD 681 is most likely to need replacement after extended daily use?

The velour or leatherette ear pads typically wear first; they are removable and can be swapped for compatible third-party pads.

At what point does the semi-open design of the HD 681 become a limitation during long mixing sessions?

Sound leakage increases with volume, so in quiet rooms the bleed into nearby microphones becomes noticeable before driver fatigue occurs.
