Eight internal SAS ports

The Supermicro AOC-S3008L-L8e is a PCIe 3.0 host bus adapter that adds eight internal SAS connectors. It uses a Broadcom 3008 I/O processor with Fusion-MPT to deliver 12Gbps throughput per lane.

Builders expanding internal storage

This card suits administrators who need to connect multiple SAS drives or backplanes inside a server or workstation. It is not for systems that lack a PCIe 3.0 slot or for installations that require external port connectivity.

PCIe 3.0 host interface

The board plugs into a PCIe 3.0 slot to provide the bandwidth needed for the eight 12Gbps SAS lanes. Verify that your platform has an available PCIe 3.0 slot before purchase.

Questions about this item

Should I pick this eight-port card or a smaller version for my server?

This model provides eight internal SAS connectors driven by the Broadcom 3008 processor. Choose it when you need to attach up to eight drives or backplanes directly.

What does the 12 Gbps rating mean once the card is installed in a PCIe 3.0 slot?

Each SAS lane runs at 12 Gbps, so every connected drive can use the full link speed while the PCIe 3.0 host interface supplies enough bandwidth for all eight ports.

Which SAS standard does the AOC-S3008L-L8e implement and what speed does it cap at?

It implements 12 Gbps SAS through the Broadcom 3008 I/O processor, capping each internal port at 12 Gbps and relying on the PCIe 3.0 host link for aggregate throughput.
