1U rackmount barebone with dual LGA 3647 sockets, eight 2.5-inch hot-swap bays and IPMI 2.0 remote management
The Supermicro SYS-1029P-MT is a 1U rackmount barebone that accepts two 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors in LGA 3647 sockets. Eight DIMM slots support up to 2 TB of DDR4 ECC memory at 2933 MHz. Eight hot-swap 2.5" SATA bays and an optional slim DVD-ROM provide local storage, while a single PCI-E 3.0 x8 full-height half-length slot adds targeted expansion. The Intel C621 chipset underpins the platform for general-purpose workloads.
A 450 W redundant power supply feeds both CPUs, memory, drives and the single add-in card within the 1U height. Dual 1 GbE ports via Marvell 88E1512 and a dedicated IPMI 2.0 LAN keep management traffic separate from production traffic. IPMI 2.0 with KVM-over-LAN allows remote power control and console access without a local monitor or keyboard. Front-to-rear airflow is handled by the chassis fans, which spin faster under heavy dual-socket load.
The unit weighs 40 lbs and uses a steel chassis with tool-less drive carriers for quick bay access. Rear I/O includes two USB 2.0 ports and one VGA connector for local install or troubleshooting. Two SuperDOM ports and one M.2 connector that accepts PCIe or SATA modules sit on the motherboard for boot-device flexibility. The single PCI-E 3.0 x8 slot is full-height half-length, so only low-profile or half-length cards fit; builders needing multiple GPUs or additional NICs should choose a wider platform.

Align each Xeon processor with the socket keying, lower it straight down without pressure, then close the load plate and torque the retention screws in the labelled sequence to avoid uneven seating.
The eight hot-swap 2.5 SATA3 drive bays and cooling fans are the primary field-replaceable units; SuperDOM modules and the optional M.2 drive can also be swapped without removing the chassis cover.
The 1U height restricts airflow, so CPU package temperatures hit their throttle point before the 88 E1512 LAN ports or DDR4-2933 memory reach any electrical limit.
