Dual LGA 3647 1U barebone

The Supermicro SYS-1029P-WTR is a 1U rackmount barebone built for dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors. It targets operators who need high compute density in a single rack unit. Twelve DIMM slots and eight hot-swap drive bays support memory-intensive and storage-heavy workloads. Redundant 750 W power supplies keep the platform running through a module failure.

Upgrade from single-socket or tower systems

Moving to this chassis makes sense when a single-socket server or tower box hits its memory or PCIe ceiling. Dual sockets double the core count and the UPI links between them scale multi-threaded throughput. The jump pays off for virtualization hosts, database nodes or rendering farms that outgrow a single CPU. It is not for builders who only need a few cores or who lack rack infrastructure.

3 TB DDR4 ceiling and eight drive bays

The board accepts up to 3 TB of ECC DDR4-2933 across twelve slots, giving ample headroom for large in-memory datasets. Eight 2.5-inch SAS or SATA bays provide high-density local storage with RAID 0, 1, 5 or 10. Two full-height PCIe 3.0 x16 slots plus a low-profile x8 and an AOM slot handle GPUs, NICs or storage controllers. The single M.2 x4 slot and dual 1 GbE ports become the bottleneck for all-flash arrays or 10 GbE networking needs.

Questions about this item

What CPU coolers fit the dual LGA 3647 sockets in this 1U chassis?

Use Supermicro 1U heatsinks validated for Socket P with a TDP range of 70-165W; each CPU requires its own cooler.

Which PCI-E slots become active only after the second CPU is installed?

The second CPU unlocks the second PCI-E 3.0 x16 FHHL slot, the PCI-E 3.0 x8 LP slot and the PCI-E 3.0 x16 AOM slot.

When should the 750W redundant power supply modules be replaced?

Swap a module immediately if its front LED turns amber or the IPMI log reports a power-supply fault.
