Model Intel Xeon D-1528

  • 6-core Xeon D-1528 at 1.9-2.2 GHz handles multi-threaded workloads
  • 35 W TDP keeps heat low in a Mini-1U chassis
  • Four DDR4 slots accept up to 128 GB ECC RDIMM
  • Dual 10GBase-T plus dual GbE ports for high-speed networking
  • External DC adapter removes internal PSU heat for stable operation

Compact barebone for embedded networking

The Supermicro SYS-E200-8D is a Mini-1U barebone server built around a soldered Intel Xeon D-1528 processor with six cores and twelve threads running at 1.9 to 2.2 GHz. Its 35 W TDP allows passive CPU cooling assisted by two 40 mm chassis fans, while an external DC power adapter removes internal heat from a power supply. The platform targets embedded networking appliances, firewalls and virtualization hosts that need a small footprint.

Memory capacity and headroom

Four 288-pin DIMM slots accept DDR4 ECC RDIMM up to 128 GB or ECC and non-ECC UDIMM up to 64 GB at speeds of 2133, 1866 or 1600 MHz. No memory is installed, so the buyer chooses capacity and redundancy to match the workload. A single 2.5 inch drive bay with bracket accommodates 9.5 mm thick drives when low-profile memory is used, limiting internal storage to one SATA device.

Interface and expansion limits

Network connectivity provides two 10GBase-T ports from the SoC, two gigabit ports via an Intel i350-AM2 controller and a dedicated IPMI LAN port. Expansion is restricted to one PCI Express 3.0 x8 slot and an M.2 connector with PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA support. Six SATA 600 ports are available for additional drives, but the single internal bay and external power brick constrain total storage and power headroom.

Questions about this item

Will the 10GBase-T ports on the SYS-E200-8D work with my existing Cat6 patch cables?

The two 10GBase-T RJ45 ports use standard twisted-pair cabling, so Cat6 or Cat6a patch cables you already own will carry 10 GbE traffic without any adapter.

How can I confirm the Xeon D-1528 is running at its 1.9-2.2 GHz range after I install memory and power on?

Enter the BIOS or IPMI interface and check the CPU frequency readout; it should show the base 1.9 GHz and turbo up to 2.2 GHz when the 6-core 12-thread SoC is under load.

The barebone has no memory or storage installed — what exactly must I add before it will boot?

You need to purchase DDR4 ECC RDIMM or UDIMM modules up to 128 GB total across the four 288-pin slots, plus a 2.5-inch 9.5 mm SATA drive or an M.2 SATA/PCIe module, then install your chosen operating system.
