Compatible Dell Desktop Power Supply

This 500W unit is built as a direct replacement for Dell XPS 8940 and Dell XPS 3880, 3891, 5080, 7080, and 3080 systems. It fits the proprietary power connectors and chassis mounting points used across those models. Installers can swap the original supply without adapters or cable modifications.

Thermal and Power Behaviour

The supply delivers 500W of continuous output through the Dell-specific pinout. Under normal desktop loads the internal fan spins at low speed, keeping operating noise at a modest level. Power draw at the wall matches the efficiency curve expected of a standard server-grade unit in these workstations.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 500W power supply into my Dell XPS 8940 case?

Remove the side panel, unplug the old unit's cables, unscrew its four rear mounting screws, slide the new supply in, refit the screws, and reconnect the 24-pin motherboard and CPU power leads.

What maintenance will this 500W supply need during its life?

Blow dust out of the rear exhaust grill and internal fan blades with compressed air once a year; if the fan later develops bearing noise or the unit fails to start, replace the entire power supply.
