Sun SPARCstation 5/20 replacement power supply

This unit is built as a direct replacement for the 300-1279 PEX668-31 power supply used in Sun SPARCstation 5 and SPARCstation 20 workstations. It suits owners maintaining these legacy systems who need a new, compatible module to restore operation. Buyers with different Sun models or non-SPARC hardware cannot use this specific part.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

The supply delivers the rated output required by the SPARCstation 5 and 20 platforms under typical workloads. Cooling is handled by the internal fan arrangement designed for the original chassis airflow path. Acoustic output matches the profile of the factory unit in a quiet office setting. No efficiency rating or input voltage range is provided by the manufacturer.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 300-1279 PEX668-31 power supply into a SPARC5 or SPARC20 workstation?

Slide the unit into the chassis bay until the connector seats firmly on the backplane; the step most people miss is fully engaging the locking latch before tightening the retention screw.

What maintenance will the 300-1279 PEX668-31 need after extended use in a SPARC5 or SPARC20?

Clean the intake vents annually with compressed air and replace the internal fan if bearing noise appears; the electrolytic capacitors typically last 5–7 years under continuous load.
