Compatible Dell T420 R520 power supply

This unit is a non-redundant server power supply built for Dell T420 and R520 systems. It replaces part numbers 96R8Y, F550E-S0, 2G4WR and DH5. Buyers needing redundant configurations or higher-wattage options cannot use this module.

Thermals noise and power draw

The supply delivers 550 watts to the platform through a single belt-line connector. Cooling is handled by the internal fan that draws air across the chassis. Acoustic output varies with server load and ambient temperature. Power consumption matches the connected hardware demand.

Questions about this item

How is the 96R8Y unit installed in a T420 chassis, and which step is often missed?

Slide the 96R8Y power supply into the T420 bay until the latch clicks, then secure the retention screw; the step often missed is tightening that screw after the latch engages.

What maintenance or replacement will the F550E-S0 need during its service life?

The F550E-S0 fan intake should be cleared of dust every few months; if the internal fan becomes noisy or fails, replace the entire 2G4WR unit.
