Compatible MICR Toner for Lexmark MS and MX Series

This SuppliesMax cartridge replaces the Lexmark 51B1000-MICR and works with the MS-317, MS-417, MS-517, MS-617, MX-317, MX-417, MX-517 and MX-617 printers. It delivers magnetic toner formulated for secure check and barcode printing that meets banking standards. The yield reaches 2500 pages at 5% coverage.

Upgrade from Standard Black Toner

Standard toner lacks the magnetic properties required for MICR encoding, so it cannot produce bank-compliant checks. Switching to this cartridge is worth it when your workflow includes cheque runs or barcode batches that must clear automated clearing houses. It is not for offices that only print general documents and never need magnetic ink.

Drop-In Installation with Drum Constraint

The cartridge installs like the OEM unit in supported 110V U.S. printers, but it must be paired with a MICR drum unit or print quality will fail. A common mistake is fitting it to a standard drum, which prevents the magnetic signal from reading correctly. No firmware steps are required beyond the normal printer reset.

Questions about this item

Does this cartridge fit the Lexmark MS-317dn without a separate drum?

It is compatible with the Lexmark MS-317dn, MS-417dn, MS-517dn, MS-617dn, MX-317dn, MX-417de, MX-517de and MX-617de, but the supplier notes it must be used with a MICR drum unit only.

What is the correct way to install the cartridge so the printer recognises it?

Power off the 110V printer, open the front cover, remove the old unit, shake the new cartridge gently side-to-side, pull the sealing tape straight out, insert until it clicks, close the cover and power on.

When will the magnetic toner need replacing for bank-compliant checks?

Replace it after approximately 2500 pages at 5% coverage; the 30-day manufacturer warranty covers defects during that period.
