Ultra-wide zoom for APS-C Sony E

The Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD is built for Sony E-mount APS-C mirrorless cameras. Its constant f/2.8 aperture across the 11-20mm range suits landscape, astrophotography and everyday shooting. The RXD stepping motor delivers quick, quiet and precise autofocus for both stills and video. Weighing 11.8 oz, the lens is compact and lightweight for travel use.

Moisture-resistant build with fluorine coating

The barrel features moisture-resistant construction and a fluorine coating on the front element to repel water and oil. At 11.8 oz the lens balances well on APS-C bodies without adding bulk. The constant f/2.8 aperture maintains exposure while zooming, helping keep shutter speeds up in low light. The ProOptic 67mm filter kit threads directly onto the front.

Close focus to 0.15 m at 11 mm

Minimum object distance is 0.15 m at the wide end and 0.24 m at 20 mm, allowing close-up work throughout the zoom range. Special elements are arranged to suppress aberrations for high-resolution results across the frame. The RXD motor sustains quiet, precise focus during extended video recording. The bundle includes hood, caps, cleaning kit, tether, pouch and a 6-year warranty.

Questions about this item

How do I attach the 67mm filter kit to the lens, and which step do people skip?

Screw the filter onto the front 67mm thread after removing the front cap; the step often skipped is tightening it evenly so the filter sits flush and does not vignette at 11mm.

What part of the lens will need cleaning or replacement after extended outdoor use?

The fluorine coating on the front element resists moisture and smudges; clean it with the supplied microfibre cloth and fluid, and replace the filter if the coating wears thin.

At what focus distance does the lens hit its closest limit at the wide end during sustained close-up work?

The minimum object distance is 0.15 m at 11 mm, so sustained macro-style shooting cannot focus closer than fifteen centimetres.
