Versatile Ultra-Telephoto Zoom for Sony E-Mount

This lens covers a 150-500mm focal range on full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, extending to a 225-750mm equivalent on APS-C bodies. It is built for photographers who need long reach for wildlife, sports or aviation subjects without carrying multiple primes.

VC Stabilisation and Flex Zoom Lock

Vibration Compensation offers three modes — standard, panning and framing priority — to steady handheld shots at the 500mm end. The Flex Zoom Lock mechanism holds the zoom ring at any position, preventing creep when the camera points up or down. A rotating Arca-type tripod collar with integrated strap loops lets you switch orientation quickly on a monopod or tripod.

Suited to Handheld Telephoto Work, Not Wide Scenes

The minimum focus distance of 23.6 inches allows detailed close-ups of small subjects, while the VXD motor delivers quiet autofocus suitable for video. Buyers who need wider angles, faster constant apertures or a lighter walk-around lens should consider other options.

Questions about this item

Will the moisture-resistant construction or the VC image-stabilisation unit need periodic servicing?

The lens uses a sealed moisture-resistant barrel and an internal VC mechanism with three selectable modes; no user-serviceable parts are mentioned, so routine cleaning of the front element and keeping the mount contacts clean are the only regular care steps.

At 500mm f/6.7, what optical limit appears first during long handheld sessions?

At the 500mm end the maximum aperture narrows to f/6.7, so light-gathering becomes the limiting factor before diffraction or stabilisation travel runs out, especially in lower-light conditions.

How much heat or fan noise does the VXD focus motor produce during all-day video recording?

The Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive motor runs silently with no cooling fan; the barrel stays at ambient temperature even during continuous focus pulls, so neither heat nor audible noise is a concern.
