Versatile EF-Mount Zoom Lens

The Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 is a fast standard zoom for Canon EF-mount cameras. It covers a versatile wide-angle to portrait-length range suitable for full-frame and APS-C bodies. Sophisticated optics with special elements suppress aberrations and distortion throughout the zoom range. eBAND and BBAR coatings improve contrast and color fidelity by controlling flare and ghosting.

Practical Limits of the f/2.8 Constant Aperture

The constant f/2.8 maximum aperture provides consistent exposure across the 24-70mm range and stops down to f/22 for depth-of-field control. This brightness aids low-light shooting and shallow depth-of-field effects. However, the fixed aperture does not widen further for extreme low-light work beyond the f/2.8 limit. The 82mm filter thread accepts the included UV filter and other large-diameter accessories.

Compatibility Checks Before Ordering

Verify your camera uses the Canon EF mount; this lens will not fit RF, EF-S only, or other mount systems directly. Confirm your body supports full-frame coverage if you require the complete image circle on a full-frame sensor. The lens features moisture-resistant construction and a fluorine-coated front element for harsh environments. Ensure you have space for the 82mm filter diameter in your kit.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 24-70mm f/2.8 over a wider or longer zoom for general use?

The 24-70mm range covers wide-angle to short telephoto on full-frame, making it a single-lens solution for events, portraits and everyday scenes.

How does the constant f/2.8 aperture perform in low light once mounted on a Canon EF body?

The fixed f/2.8 lets you keep shutter speeds fast indoors or at dusk without raising ISO, and depth of field stays consistent across the zoom.

What does the Canon EF mount mean for compatibility and stabilisation performance?

It fits Canon full-frame and APS-C DSLRs natively, and the in-lens Vibration Compensation gives up to 5-stop shake reduction on any supported body.
