Diagnostic cable for BMW E-chassis coding with a hardware switch between K-Line and DCAN protocols
The TAURKENAM K+DCAN cable connects a laptop to the OBD-II port on every BMW E-series chassis, including M and Alpina variants. It uses an FTDI FT232RL chip to translate the vehicle’s K-Line and DCAN protocols over USB for coding and diagnostics.
A physical toggle on the cable selects between K-Line and DCAN without unplugging, letting the same lead work with EDIABAS, NCS Expert and ISTA software. The host computer must supply the application and drivers; no software is bundled.
The FT232RL maintains a steady USB-to-serial stream during long coding sessions or multi-module flashes, preventing the buffer drops that can brick a control unit. It requires no external power and draws only the current the port provides.

The cable uses an FTDI FT232RL chipset for USB communication; sustained throughput depends on the host software and vehicle bus load rather than a stated buffer limit.
No active components beyond the FT232RL interface are present, so heat output remains low and the plastic housing stays cool to the touch during extended use.
A standard USB-A port and a Windows environment capable of running EDIABAS, NCS Expert and ISTA are needed; the cable itself supplies the K-Line and DCAN protocol switching.
