TeKit 4-port SATA III controller card

The TeKit IO-PCE9215-4I adds four SATA III ports through a single PCI Express 2.0 x1 slot. It targets system builders who need more internal drive connections than the motherboard provides.

Sustained throughput limited by PCIe 2.0 x1

Each attached drive can signal at 6.0 Gbps, 3.0 Gbps or 1.5 Gbps. The host link caps aggregate bandwidth to the PCIe 2.0 x1 ceiling, so simultaneous heavy transfers from multiple drives will queue rather than scale.

PCIe 2.0 x1 lane count is the practical bottleneck

The card fits x1, x4, x8 or x16 slots but only negotiates one lane. Builders who need more than four drives or higher total bandwidth must choose a card with a wider PCIe interface.

Questions about this item

Does the IO-PCE9215-4I run hot or draw much power when all four SATA ports are active all day?

The card uses a PCIe 2.0 x1 interface compliant with the 2.0 specification and is backward compatible with 1.x, so power draw is limited to what the slot provides.

What must I already have inside the case to install and use this card?

A free PCIe x1, x4, x8 or x16 slot and SATA power cables from the PSU for each drive; the box includes two SATA data cables and a low-profile bracket.

Will my older 3 Gbps and 1.5 Gbps SATA drives work at full speed alongside this 6 Gbps controller?

Yes, the Marvell 9215 controller supports 6.0, 3.0 and 1.5 Gbps rates with NCQ and hot-plug, so legacy drives negotiate their native speed automatically.
