Immersive Wide-Field Eyepiece

The Tele Vue Nagler Type-5 31mm eyepiece delivers an 82° apparent field of view for expansive, immersive observing sessions. Its 19mm eye relief ensures comfortable viewing for extended periods, even while wearing eyeglasses. Designed for astronomers seeking the widest possible true field, it provides a "spacewalk" perspective on celestial objects.

Six-Element Optical Design

A sophisticated six-element configuration uses four exotic glass types to minimise aberrations and maintain high contrast across the entire field. Advanced optical coatings maximise light transmission for brighter images in low-light conditions. The 2-inch barrel diameter fits standard focusers, though the large element shapes prevent the use of an instadjust eyeguard.

Practical Field Limits

The 31mm focal length yields a true field more than 50% wider than the 20mm Nagler Type 2, offering 2.35 times the viewing area. This represents the largest true field achievable within the Nagler eyepiece family. Observers requiring longer focal lengths or different barrel sizes will need alternative eyepiece designs.

Questions about this item

What does the 82° apparent field of view mean for my telescope's true field?

The 82° apparent field delivers a true field more than 50% wider than previous Naglers, giving 2.35 times the viewing area for immersive deep-sky observing.

Will this 31mm eyepiece fit my telescope's focuser?

It requires a standard 2-inch focuser; the barrel diameter is 2 inches, so verify your telescope accepts 2-inch eyepieces before purchasing.

How do I set the eye relief correctly when wearing glasses?

With 19mm eye relief, fold down the rubber eyeguard fully, then position your eye until the full 82° field is visible without vignetting at the edges.
