Type J Thermocouple for Industrial Use
This Tempco thermocouple uses a grounded Type J junction to measure temperature in appliances, ductwork, food and beverage lines, HVAC systems, ovens, packaging equipment and pharmaceutical processes. It suits technicians and engineers who need a direct-contact sensor for low-temperature industrial control loops.
Range and Wiring Constraints
The sensor operates from 32 to 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit (0 to 760 degrees Celsius), so it cannot handle cryogenic or ultra-high-temperature environments. Its six-foot bare-wire cable with split leads requires termination at the instrument, and the grounded junction makes it susceptible to electrical noise in unshielded installations.
Simple Mounting with Wiring Care
The 3/16-inch by 6-inch probe fits standard fittings and installs by inserting the sheath into the process connection. The main difficulty is routing the bare leads without strain relief and ensuring the grounded junction does not create a ground loop with the measuring instrument.

Questions about this item
Should I choose the 6 ft cable or a different length for my oven installation?
The supplied cable is 6 ft long; select that length when the probe must reach from the oven interior to the controller without splicing.
What does the 32 to 1,400 °F range mean when the probe is inside a packaging machine?
It means the Type J element will accurately report temperatures from freezing up to 1,400 °F, covering typical packaging heat-seal zones.
How does the Type J interface limit the maximum temperature I can measure?
Type J calibration caps reliable measurement at 1,400 °F (760 °C); beyond that the iron–constantan junction drifts and the reading becomes inaccurate.
