Filter thread and grade

This Tiffen camera accessory is a 105mm coarse-thread Black Pro-Mist 1/4 filter designed for photographers and videographers who want a subtle, film-like softening of highlights and a gentle reduction in contrast. It suits portrait and scenic work where a delicate diffusion enhances skin tones and overall image aesthetics without sacrificing core sharpness.

Mounting and handling

The coarse-thread design allows the filter to screw directly onto compatible 105mm lens fronts, so installation is a simple twist-on action that requires no tools or adapters. Cross-threading is the most common issue; align the threads carefully before turning and stop immediately if resistance is felt to avoid damaging the lens or filter rings.

105mm thread diameter

The single specification that determines fit is the 105mm coarse thread pitch; the filter will only mount on lenses or matte boxes that share this exact thread size. Buyers whose lenses use a different diameter or fine-thread standard cannot use this filter without a step-up ring, which is not included.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the filter is producing the intended 1/4 grade softening effect after mounting it on my lens?

Shoot a high-contrast scene or portrait and review the image; the 1/4 grade should visibly soften highlights and lower contrast while keeping detail sharp, creating a subtle film-like look on skin tones.

What is included in the box with this 105mm coarse thread filter and what extra items might I need to purchase separately?

The package contains the single Black Pro-Mist 1/4 glass filter; you may need a 105mm lens cap, a protective filter pouch, or step-up rings if your lenses have smaller thread diameters.

Which Pro-Mist strength should I choose among the available grades for balanced portrait and scenic work?

The 1/4 grade listed here delivers a moderate soft focus that reduces contrast and lightens shadows without losing overall sharpness, making it the standard choice for portraits and broad scenics.
