55 mm 85B filter shifts daylight from 5500 K to 3200 K for natural colours with tungsten film
The Tiffen 5585B is a 55mm colour conversion filter designed for photographers and cinematographers who shoot tungsten-balanced film or video outdoors. It compensates for the higher colour temperature of daylight so that recorded colours appear natural rather than excessively blue.
The 85B designation indicates a fixed reduction from 5500 to 3200 degrees Kelvin, matching the filter’s specified conversion value. Because the effect is optical rather than electronic, the colour shift remains stable throughout long shooting sessions and does not drift with temperature or battery state.
The filter mounts directly onto any lens or matte box with a 55mm front thread, adding minimal thickness to the optical path. Its flat glass construction resists vignetting on wide-angle lenses, while the metal ring withstands repeated attachment and removal during location changes.

The Tiffen 5585B is a passive glass filter with no electronics, so it produces no heat, noise or power draw regardless of how long you shoot.
You need a lens with a 55mm front filter thread; the 5585B screws straight onto that thread without step-up or step-down rings.
Yes, the 85B lowers 5500 K daylight to approximately 3200 K, matching tungsten film rated for 3200 K and giving natural colours outdoors.
