Product identity

The Tiffen 58mm Glimmer Glass 1 Filter is a diffusion accessory designed for lenses with a 58 mm front thread. It subtly softens fine detail and adds a gentle glow to highlights while lowering contrast for a more flattering look. The silver sparkle in the glass also signals to on-set talent that the filter is active. Ideal for videographers and photographers who want a cosmetic softening effect directly in-camera.

Installation notes

The filter threads directly onto any 58 mm lens barrel, requiring no tools or adapters. Careless handling can leave fingerprints on the coated surfaces, so clean with a microfibre cloth before shooting. Over-tightening may bind the threads on aluminium mounts, and stacking multiple filters increases vignetting risk on wider focal lengths.

Pre-purchase checks

Confirm the front filter thread of your lens measures exactly 58 mm before ordering. Verify that your matte box or lens hood can accommodate the additional glass thickness if you use either. Ensure you want a strength-1 density; higher grades produce a stronger glow that cannot be reduced in post. Buyers who need a different thread size or a stronger diffusion grade should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the Glimmer Glass 1 filter is working correctly after mounting it on my 58mm lens?

When production starts, the silver sparkle on the front of the lens becomes visible, giving a visual cue that the filter is in place and active.

What items are included with the Tiffen 58GG1 filter and what must I purchase separately?

The filter itself is included; a compatible 58mm lens or step-up ring for other thread sizes must be bought separately.

Which Glimmer Glass strength should I choose for a subtle softening effect on highlights?

The Glimmer Glass 1 (lower number) provides the most subtle effect, while higher numbers give a more pronounced glow and diffusion.
