Tiffen 77mm Pro-Mist 1/8 Filter

The Tiffen 77mm Pro-Mist 1/8 Filter is a motion-picture effect filter that softens excess sharpness and contrast. It produces a pearlescent halo around highlights for a distinctive atmospheric look. The filter threads onto lenses with a 77mm front diameter. It is manufactured in the United States.

Cinematographers and photographers seeking halation

This filter suits cinematographers and photographers who want to reduce clinical sharpness from modern lenses. It is ideal for portrait work or narrative scenes requiring a gentle glow. Buyers who need a neutral protective filter or a stronger diffusion effect should look at alternative grades or filter types.

1/8 strength diffusion grade

The 1/8 grade provides subtle softening while retaining image detail. It comfortably handles highlight bloom in controlled lighting without overwhelming the scene. Stronger grades are required for heavier diffusion or more pronounced halation.

Questions about this item

Which lens thread size must my lens have to accept this 77mm Pro-Mist 1/8 filter?

Your lens needs a 77mm front thread; the filter mounts directly onto that diameter.

Will this filter work on older manual-focus lenses that also have a 77mm thread?

Yes, any lens with a 77mm front thread — regardless of age or focus type — can use the filter.

How can I confirm the filter is producing the intended pearlescent highlight halos after I attach it?

Point the camera at a bright specular highlight; you should see a soft, pearlescent glow spreading around it.
