Paper specification

This pad contains thirty sheets of cotton watercolor paper measuring 8.5 by 5.5 inches. Each sheet weighs 140 lb or 300 gsm and is cold press acid-free. The surface provides one rough side for washes and one smooth side for detail work. It suits watercolor, acrylic and mixed media techniques.

Who it suits

Artists, students and teachers who need a portable pad for sketching or finished paintings will find the format practical. The weight resists warping under heavy washes and the acid-free stock preserves color over time. Buyers who require larger sheets or a higher sheet count should consider other formats.

Deciding specification

The 300 gsm cold press cotton construction determines whether this pad matches your workflow. It handles multiple wet layers without buckling and keeps pigments bright. If you need thinner paper for dry media only or a different texture, this weight and finish will not fit.

Questions about this item

Will the 300 gsm cotton sheets take heavy washes without buckling when I tape them to my old drawing board?

The 140 lb cold-press cotton paper resists warping under multiple wet layers, so it stays flat on a rigid board even with heavy washes.

How can I tell which side of each sheet is the textured cold-press surface after I open the pad?

One side feels noticeably rough for watercolor work while the opposite side is smooth for sketching or calligraphy.

Does the pad include any protective interleaving or backing board, or do I need to buy a separate portfolio?

The pad contains 30 sheets of 8.5 x 5.5 inch acid-free cotton paper only; no interleaving sheets or rigid backing board are included.
