What it is and who it's for

The Tonstep KN319 is a compact Bluetooth 4.1 adapter that works as both a transmitter and a receiver. It adds wireless audio to non-Bluetooth TVs, stereos or CD players, or streams audio from a phone or computer to wired speakers and headphones using the included 3.5 mm cable and 3.5 mm to 2RCA cable.

Who should buy it and who should look elsewhere

This adapter suits anyone wanting a simple two-in-one solution to connect legacy hi-fi gear or a television to Bluetooth headphones or speakers. Buyers needing aptX low-latency codecs, multipoint pairing, longer than 10 metre range or a USB audio interface should consider a different device.

The specification that decides fit

The single specification that decides fit is Bluetooth 4.1 with A2DP and AVRCP support in receiver mode only, giving a 10 metre operating range and a two-hour charge time for portable use.

Questions about this item

Will the 3.5 mm cable included with the KN319 let me connect it to my older stereo that only has RCA inputs?

The package supplies both a 3.5 mm audio cable and a 3.5 mm to 2RCA cable so you can plug straight into legacy RCA sockets.

How do I know the KN319 is paired and streaming correctly once I flip the mode switch?

The unit uses Bluetooth 4.1; when the mode switch is set and the LED shows a steady connection, audio flows over A2DP to the paired headset or speaker.

Which cables come in the box with the KN319 and what must I provide myself?

You receive a 3.5 mm audio cable and a 3.5 mm to 2RCA cable; any power source for charging via USB is not included.
