Toshiba America Consumer

Toshiba America Consumer BG5 512 GB NVMe accessory

SKU CH-M15D-XB9QX MPN BG5

Internal PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD delivering 3.5 GB/s reads and 2.7 GB/s writes with OPAL SED security

  • Fast 3500 MB/s reads accelerate boot and app loading
  • PCIe 4.0 interface doubles bandwidth over older standards
  • OPAL self-encryption protects data without performance loss
  • Compact M.2 2280 form factor fits thin laptops and desktops
  • 112-layer 3D TLC flash delivers high density and endurance

What this drive is and who it suits

The KIOXIA BG5 is a 512 GB internal solid-state drive built for laptops, Macs and desktops that accept an 80 mm M.2 module. It targets users who need fast, encrypted storage for everyday workloads and want a new component that installs directly into a compatible slot.

Build quality and daily implications

The drive uses 112-layer BiCS FLASH 3D TLC memory and carries OPAL self-encrypting drive support, so data is protected at rest without software overhead. Its M.2 2280 form factor fits standard laptop and desktop sockets, and Host Memory Buffer technology lets the controller borrow system memory for efficient operation.

The specification that decides fit

The drive requires a PCIe 4.0 interface and NVMe 1.4 compliance, meaning the host must provide a 2021-or-later platform with explicit PCIe 4.0 support; older systems limited to PCIe 3.0 will not realise the advertised 3.5 GB/s read and 2.7 GB/s write speeds.
