Quad-Band AXE16000 Wi-Fi 6E router

The TP-Link Archer AXE300 is a quad-band Wi-Fi 6E router that delivers up to 15.6 Gbps total throughput across four distinct frequency bands. It targets households with heavy 4K or 8K streaming, AR/VR gaming and large file transfers who need congestion-free spectrum on the new 6 GHz band. Eight external antennas and a 2.0 GHz quad-core 64-bit CPU provide the processing headroom for simultaneous high-demand clients.

Upgrade from dual-band or tri-band routers

This unit replaces older dual-band or tri-band routers that cannot access the 6 GHz spectrum and therefore contend with neighbour interference on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The jump is worth it when the household owns Wi-Fi 6E-capable phones, laptops or headsets that can use the 4804 Mbps 6 GHz band and when multi-gig internet service exceeds 1 Gbps. Homes without 6E clients or with sub-gigabit WAN links will not see the full benefit.

Build integration: ports, VPN and security

Two 10 Gbps WAN/LAN ports — one RJ45 and one SFP+/RJ45 combo — plus a 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port and four Gigabit LAN ports handle fibre, copper and high-speed NAS links without bottlenecks. A USB 3.0 port adds fast local storage sharing. Built-in OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP server and client functions let remote devices tunnel home securely. HomeShield parental controls include custom profiles, content filtering, bedtime schedules and weekly usage reports.

Questions about this item

How much space do the eight antennas need for the Archer AXE300?

The eight external antennas fold flat or angle upright, so allow roughly 30 cm of clearance above the unit and a 25 cm footprint on a desk or shelf.

Which port should I use for the 2.5 Gbps WAN link during setup?

Connect the ISP cable to the dedicated 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port; the two 10 Gbps ports cannot serve as WAN at the same time.

When should I replace the USB 3.0 drive attached for network storage?

Swap the drive when SMART health drops below 80 % or after five years of continuous 24/7 operation to avoid sudden data loss.
