Single-Unit Mesh Router

The TP-Link Deco M5 is a dual-band wireless router designed to replace a traditional router and extender setup with a whole-home mesh system. It suits households that want seamless coverage across multiple rooms without managing separate network names.

Simple App-Based Setup

Installation is handled through the Deco mobile app, which guides placement and configuration in minutes. The main difficulty arises if the primary unit is placed too far from the modem or if additional nodes are spaced beyond reliable backhaul range, causing weak mesh links.

Check Your Home Layout First

Verify that a single unit can cover your floor area; the manufacturer cites up to 2,000 sq. ft. of coverage for one pack. Confirm your internet plan delivers speeds the dual-band radios can handle — 400 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 867 Mbps on 5 GHz — and ensure you have a free Ethernet port on your modem for the WAN connection.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the Deco M5 is delivering the 400 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 867 Mbps on 5 GHz after setup?

Use the Deco app to run a speed test on each band; the results should approach 400 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 867 Mbps on 5 GHz when connected devices support those rates.

What comes in the box with the 1-pack and what must I buy separately to expand coverage?

The box contains one Deco M5 unit, a power adapter and an Ethernet cable; additional Deco M5 units are sold separately to extend the mesh.

When should I choose the 1-pack versus adding more Deco M5 units for a larger home?

The 1-pack covers up to 2000 sq. ft.; add more Deco M5 units if your home exceeds that area or has thick walls that weaken the signal.
