What this system replaces

The TP-Link Deco M5 two-pack replaces a traditional router and extender setup with two mesh units that cover up to 3,800 square feet. Each unit provides dual-band Wi-Fi with 400 megabits per second on 2.4 gigahertz and 867 megabits per second on 5 gigahertz. It suits homes that need seamless roaming without switching network names.

Installation and common issues

Setup is managed through the Deco app on Android 4.3 or later and iOS 8.0 or later. Each unit has two gigabit ethernet ports and a USB-C power port. The reset button sits underneath the unit. A frequent mistake is placing units too far apart, which breaks the wireless backhaul and reduces throughput.

Coverage figure that decides fit

The 3,800 square foot coverage rating is the single number that determines whether this two-pack is sufficient. Larger homes or layouts with dense walls will need additional Deco units. Buyers who need more coverage should plan for extra nodes rather than relying on a single two-pack.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the Deco M5 mesh is working after setup?

The Deco app shows a single network name across both units and reports each device connected to the nearest node; the LED on every unit turns solid white when the mesh link is healthy.

What comes in the 2-pack box and what must I add?

Two Deco M5 units, two USB-C power adapters and one Ethernet cable are included; you only need a broadband modem and the Deco app on Android 4.3+ or iOS 8.0+.

Which Deco M5 pack should I choose for a 3,800 sq. ft. home?

This 2-pack covers up to 3,800 sq. ft. with AC1300 dual-band Wi-Fi — 400 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 867 Mbps on 5 GHz — and each unit provides two Gigabit LAN ports for wired devices.
