TP-Link Festa FR365 VPN Router

The TP-Link Festa FR365 is an AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 router designed for small businesses needing secure multi-site connectivity. It supports up to 100 IPsec, 55 OpenVPN, 50 L2TP and 50 PPTP tunnels for remote access and branch linking. Cloud management through the Festa app or web interface provides centralised control without on-premise controller hardware.

Check WAN ports and management platform

Verify that your internet connections use Ethernet or a compatible 4G/3G USB modem for the five WAN ports. The router does not work with TP-Link Omada controllers; it requires the Festa Cloud platform for configuration and monitoring. Ensure your existing switches and access points are Festa models if you plan to use the Self-Organizing Network and mesh features.

Upgrades single-WAN routers without cloud VPN

This unit replaces routers limited to one WAN line and no built-in VPN server by adding load balancing across five Gigabit WAN ports and extensive tunnel capacity. The jump is worthwhile when you need simultaneous multi-line redundancy, remote-worker access via multiple VPN protocols, or mesh expansion with Festa access points without extra cabling.

Questions about this item

What ports and accessories come with the FR365 router, and what must I add for 4G backup?

The box includes the FR365 router with one dedicated Gigabit WAN port, four configurable Gigabit WAN/LAN ports, one USB 3.0 port and one SFP slot. A compatible 4G/3G USB modem must be purchased separately for mobile broadband failover.

Should I pick the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band for the highest throughput on this AX3000 unit?

The 5 GHz radio delivers up to 2402 Mbps using 2×2 HE160 1024-QAM, while the 2.4 GHz radio reaches 574 Mbps. For maximum speed, connect capable clients to the 5 GHz band.

What does the AX3000 rating mean for real-world wireless speed on this model?

AX3000 represents the combined theoretical ceiling of 2976 Mbps — 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz plus 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. Actual throughput will be lower due to overhead, interference and client capabilities.
