The TP-Link MC200CM converts 1000BASE-SX multi-mode fiber to 1000Base-T copper Ethernet. It provides one SC port and one RJ45 port with auto MDI/MDIX. The unit operates at 1 Gbps full-duplex and includes LED indicators for power, link and receive activity. An external power adapter is included.

Distance limits depend on fiber core size

Multi-mode fiber reach is capped by the cable specification used. With 50/125 µm fiber the link extends up to 550 m, while 62.5/125 µm fiber reduces the maximum to 220 m. Copper twisted-pair segments remain limited to 100 m per IEEE 802.3ab. The converter works at 850 nm wavelength on both transmit and receive paths.

SC connector type decides compatibility

The fiber port uses an SC interface, so only patch cables terminated with SC connectors will fit. Installations that require LC, ST or other connector types cannot use this converter directly. The RJ45 port accepts standard category 5, 5e or 6 UTP and STP cabling up to 100 m.
