Outdoor smart plug with two outlets

The TP-Link Tapo P400M is a Matter-certified outdoor smart plug that adds two independently controlled AC outlets to a home automation system. It connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and works with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings without a proprietary hub. An IP65 rating and a temperature range of -4 to 122 °F let it stay mounted outside year-round.

Best for Matter households needing outdoor control

This plug suits owners who want to automate patio lights, fountain pumps or holiday decorations from a single ecosystem. Renters or installers who cannot mount hardware should note the included clamp and screw are required for a secure fit. Buyers needing 5 GHz Wi-Fi, energy monitoring or more than two outlets will not find those features here.

Dual outlets handle two separate loads

Each outlet can be scheduled or voice-controlled independently, so a string light and a sprinkler can run on different timers. Dual antennas provide up to 300 ft range in open air and 164 ft through three concrete walls. The 6-inch power cord limits placement distance from the mains socket, and the 0.55 lb unit adds minimal weight to the mounting surface.

Questions about this item

Does the Tapo P400M need a separate Matter hub or will it join my Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home or SmartThings setup directly?

It connects to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and works with any Matter-certified platform — Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home or SmartThings — without an extra hub.

If I keep my existing 2.4 GHz router, will the plug's dual antennas maintain a stable link through exterior walls?

The dual antennas give up to 300 ft range in open air and 164 ft through three concrete walls, so a standard 2.4 GHz router is sufficient.

After mounting the P400M with the included clamp and screw, how do I confirm both outlets are responding correctly?

Use the Tapo app to toggle each outlet independently; the app shows real-time on/off status and lets you run a quick schedule test.
