16-port Gigabit switch for small networks

The TP-Link TL-SG1016 is an unmanaged 16-port Gigabit Ethernet switch designed for small offices, workgroups and home users who need to move large files quickly. It delivers 10/100/1000 Mbps connectivity on every port with a 32 Gbps switching capacity and an 8K MAC address table. No configuration is required; the unit operates on a plug-and-play basis.

Steel rackmount chassis with fanless cooling

A standard 19-inch rackmountable steel case houses shielded RJ45 ports and supports Auto MDI/MDIX to eliminate crossover cables. The fanless design runs silently within an operating range of 0 to 40 °C, drawing a maximum of 9.26 W at 220 V. IEEE 802.3x flow control and backpressure handle full and half-duplex traffic without blocking.

Upgrades 100 Mbps backbones to full Gigabit

This switch replaces older Fast Ethernet hubs or switches, giving servers and backbone links a direct path to 1000 Mbps throughput. The jump is worth it when CAD, multimedia or large graphics files saturate 100 Mbps links and a managed feature set is not required. It does not serve buyers who need VLAN segmentation or PoE power for connected devices.

Questions about this item

What does the IEEE 802.3ab standard cap the port speed at on this switch?

Each of the 16 RJ45 ports auto-negotiates up to 1000Mbps, the maximum defined by IEEE 802.3ab for Gigabit Ethernet over copper.

What rack space and depth does the TL-SG1016 need to mount?

It fits a standard 19-inch rack, occupies 1U (1.70 inches high) and is 7.10 inches deep.

How do you install the TL-SG1016 and what step is often missed?

Mount the included brackets, secure the switch in the rack, connect the 100-240V AC power cord, then plug in Ethernet cables — no software configuration is required because it is unmanaged.
