Bluetooth 4.0 nano USB adapter

The TP-Link UB400 adds Bluetooth 4.0 to a Windows PC through a USB port. It supports low energy technology and remains backward compatible with earlier Bluetooth versions. The adapter measures 0.74" x 0.58" x 0.27" and stays almost flush with the chassis. No driver is needed for Windows 10, 8.1 or 8.

Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 and XP only

Plug and play operation works on Windows 10, 8.1 and 8 while Windows 7 and XP require a free driver download. The device is not compatible with Mac, Linux or TV operating systems. Buyers who need support for those platforms should look elsewhere. The adapter suits desktops and laptops running the listed Windows versions.

Bluetooth 4.0 with low energy

The single specification that decides fit is Bluetooth 4.0 with low energy (BLE) support. It connects mice, keyboards, printers, headsets, speakers and PS4 or Xbox controllers at up to 65 ft. Systems without an available USB port or running an unsupported OS cannot use this adapter.

Questions about this item

How far can the UB400 maintain a Bluetooth 4.0 link before the signal drops?

The adapter keeps a reliable connection up to 65 ft, so you can move around the room without losing audio or input.

Does the nano dongle get warm or draw noticeable power when left plugged in all day?

It runs cool within the rated 0 to 40 °C operating range and consumes only the tiny current a USB port supplies for a Bluetooth 4.0 radio.

Which Windows versions need a manual driver download before the UB400 will work?

Windows 7 and XP require the free driver from TP-Link; Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 install it automatically.
