What this drive is

The Transcend ESD360C is a 2 TB external solid-state drive that connects through USB Type-A and Type-C ports. It fits in a credit-card footprint and weighs very little, so it slips into a pocket or wallet. Data is protected by 256-bit AES encryption and the chassis survives a three-metre drop.

Who this suits and who it does not

Creative professionals and mobile workers who need fast, rugged, encrypted storage for large media libraries or confidential documents will benefit. Buyers who want more capacity than 2 TB or who require an internal drive form factor should look at something else.

The specification that decides fit

The drive delivers sequential transfers up to 2000 MB/s over a 20 Gbps USB connection. If your workflow demands that sustained throughput and your host ports support the same link speed, this SSD matches the requirement; slower ports will limit real-world performance.

Questions about this item

Which version of the Transcend ESD360C should I choose for my storage needs?

The model listed here provides 2TB of capacity with up to 2000 MB/sec transfer speeds, 256-bit AES encryption and drop resistance from 3 metres.

What does the 2000 MB/sec headline speed mean when I plug the drive into my computer?

You can expect read and write performance up to 2000 MB/sec for large sequential files, accelerated by the built-in SLC cache, so big transfers finish quickly.

What interface does the ESD360C use and what throughput does it cap at in practice?

It connects via USB 20Gbps with both Type-A and Type-C cables included, and the drive itself reaches 2000 MB/sec, which is the practical ceiling for this SSD.
