Adapter for Locking PDU Inputs

This six-inch adapter connects a PDU fitted with a NEMA L5-20P locking plug to a standard NEMA 5-20R outlet. The heavy-duty 12 AWG construction supports 20 A at 120 V for reliable power delivery in rack environments.

Practical Limits of the NEMA 5-20 Interface

The NEMA 5-20R outlet supplies up to 20 A at 120 V, so the adapter cannot exceed that rating regardless of the PDU's own capacity. The short 0.5 ft length keeps voltage drop minimal but offers no reach beyond adjacent rack sockets.

Build Quality and Day-to-Day Use

A black PVC jacket protects the 12 AWG conductors while the moulded female L5-20R to male 5-20P ends resist strain during repeated insertions. The compact form factor sits flush in dense rack rows without blocking neighbouring ports.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 6-inch or the half-foot length for my rack setup?

Both figures describe the same cable; 6 inches equals 0.5 ft, so there is only one length to select.

What does the 20 A, 120 V rating mean when I plug this into my PDU?

The cord handles up to 20 amps at 120 volts, matching a standard 20 A branch circuit for server equipment.

How do the NEMA L5-20R and 5-20P connectors limit what I can connect?

The twist-lock L5-20R mates with a PDU inlet while the straight-blade 5-20P plugs into a 20 A wall receptacle, so both ends must match those outlet types.
