Add a second HDMI display via USB 3.0

The Tripp Lite U344-001-HDMI-R connects an extra HDMI monitor or projector to a single USB 3.0 SuperSpeed port on a laptop or desktop. It uses 512 MB of onboard SDRAM to drive resolutions up to 2048 x 1152 at 60 Hz and 1080p at 60 Hz. Up to six adapters can run together, giving one computer up to six additional screens. The unit is hot-pluggable and requires no reboot when a display is added or removed.

Suits users with a free USB 3.0 port who need

Ideal for extending a desktop across two or more monitors for spreadsheets, multitasking or mirrored presentations. Not suitable for systems that only provide USB 2.0 ports, because the adapter needs USB 3.0 bandwidth. Buyers who require DisplayPort, DVI or VGA outputs should look at a different adapter type.

Maximum supported resolution is 2048 x 1152 at 60 Hz

This ceiling decides whether the adapter matches the target display. Panels with a native resolution higher than 2048 x 1152 will not run at their full pixel count. The 512 MB SDRAM frame buffer and USB 3.0 link define this hard limit.

Questions about this item

One adapter or several — how many can I stack on one computer?

You can connect up to six U344-001-HDMI-R adapters to a single USB 3.0 host, giving six extra HDMI displays from one machine.

The box says 2048 x 1152 at 60 Hz — will my 1080p panel run at that rate?

Yes; the chipset drives 1080p at 60 Hz as well as the higher 2048 x 1152 mode, so a standard Full-HD monitor will refresh at 60 Hz.

Does the USB 3.0 link limit resolution or frame-rate in practice?

The SuperSpeed USB 3.0 connection provides enough bandwidth for the adapter’s maximum 2048 x 1152 at 60 Hz output without compression bottlenecks.
