Mission-critical switch with battery backup

The Ubiquiti Networks USW-Mission-Critical (120W) is a managed rackmount switch that integrates a 368Wh lithium-ion battery to keep PoE devices running during mains outages. It targets administrators who need uninterrupted power for cameras, access points or VoIP phones in environments where a separate UPS is impractical. The unit occupies 1U of rack space and includes a 1.3 inch touchscreen for local status checks.

Eight PoE ports with mixed power budgets

The decisive specification is the downlink configuration: four ports deliver up to 60W PoE++ each while four more provide standard PoE/PoE+, all at 1 Gbps. A single additional GbE port handles non-PoE uplinks. Total PoE budget is 120W, so the number of high-power devices you can support simultaneously is limited by that aggregate figure rather than by the per-port maximums.

Sustained operation on battery power

Under continuous load the internal battery supplies PoE without interruption when AC fails, and the switch itself remains online to maintain network connectivity. Two 110V AC outputs on the rear can power auxiliary gear such as a modem or NVR during the same outage. Operating temperature range is -5 to 40 °C with 5 to 95 % non-condensing humidity, so the chassis tolerates typical equipment-room conditions while the battery discharges.

Questions about this item

What does the 120 W PoE budget mean when the switch is running on battery power?

The 120 W PoE budget is the total power available for all eight PoE ports; the integrated 368 Wh lithium-ion battery can supply this budget to keep connected devices running during a mains outage.

What does the managed Layer 3 capability add for a network using this switch?

The switch provides Layer 3 routing between VLANs plus Layer 2 features such as IGMP snooping, STP/RSTP, port isolation, storm control, voice VLAN, port mirroring, LACP aggregation and MAC address blocking.

What rack space and clearance does the 442 x 480 x 44 mm chassis need?

The unit fits a standard 19-inch rack (442 mm wide), occupies 1 U of height (44 mm), and requires 480 mm of depth; it weighs 9 kg without the supplied mounting brackets or 9.2 kg with them.
