Converts RS-232 signals to RS-422 for 1.2 km transmission using a DB9 female-to-male adapter with terminal block, no external power needed
The UOTEK UT-202D converts signals between RS-232C and RS-422 EIA/TIA standards. It connects a DB9 female port to a DB9 male port with an integrated terminal block. The unit draws power from the RS-232 line using charge-pump technology so no external supply is needed. It suits engineers linking PCs to industrial instruments over long cables.
The terminal block on the RS-422 side simplifies wiring with twisted-pair or shielded cable. Built-in zero-delay auto receive and transmit conversion controls data flow direction without RTS or DTR handshake signals. This allows existing RS-232 full-duplex software to run unchanged. The converter operates in asynchronous half-duplex differential mode across the supported baud range.
RS-422 differential transmission extends the link to 1,200 metres while RS-232 remains limited to 5 metres. The device handles baud rates from 300 to 115.2 KBPS within a -25 to 70 °C temperature range and 5 % to 95 % humidity. It is not suited for full-duplex RS-422 applications or systems requiring isolation or baud rates above 115.2 KBPS.

| Brand name | UOTEK |
| Model name | UT-202D |
| Product type | CONVERTER |
| Ports & slots | |
| First connector | DB9 female |
| Second connector | DB9 male,with terminal block |
The unit uses a DB9 female, a DB9 male and a screw terminal block — all passive connectors with no moving parts, so no scheduled tightening or replacement is required.
The 1.2 km figure is the specified maximum for RS-422 differential signalling; beyond that distance signal attenuation and timing margins exceed the design limits.
It operates from -25 °C to 70 °C with no fan and no external supply, so heat contribution is minimal in a ventilated enclosure.
