Converts RS-232 to RS-422 or RS-485 with DB9 and RJ45 ports and 600W surge protection per line
The UOTEK UT-216 converts a single-ended RS-232C port into balanced differential RS-422 or RS-485 signals using a DB9 female input and both DB9 male and RJ-45 outputs. It targets engineers and integrators who need to extend legacy COM links over twisted-pair or shielded cable in factory, automation or building-management environments.
The converter operates in asynchronous half-duplex or full-duplex mode and maintains reliable throughput up to 115.2K bps at 300 m, 38.4K bps at 600 m and 9 600 bps at 1 200 m. On-board TVS devices clamp transients on every RS-422/RS-485 line at 600 W, protecting the interface from lightning strikes and industrial noise during continuous operation.
A 97×65×22 mm metal housing rated for -25 °C to 70 °C and 5 % to 95 % relative humidity withstands harsh cabinets and outdoor panels. Front-panel LEDs show power, TXD and RXD status at a glance, while the mixed DB9 and RJ-45 connectors simplify wiring without gender changers or custom cables.

The converter operates passively with no fan and is rated for -25 to 70 °C, so it runs cool even during all-day use.
You need a DB9 serial cable for the RS-232 side and either twisted-pair or shielded cable with RJ-45 plugs for the RS-422/485 side.
Yes, it handles 9,600 bps up to 1,200 m and auto-switches between half-duplex and full-duplex modes for older devices.
