Industrial RS-232 to CAN bus converter with isolated interface, 5 kbps-1 Mbps CAN rate, 600 bps-230 kbps RS-232 rate, three conversion modes, and -40 to 85 °C operation
The UOTEK UT-2505B enables bidirectional data exchange between a DB9 female RS-232 port and a terminal-block CAN bus interface. It supports the CAN 2.0 protocol and operates on 12-36 V DC with a current draw below 150 mA at 12 V. The unit is built for industrial environments with an operating range of -40 to 85 Celsius.
This converter upgrades simple point-to-point links by adding three selectable conversion modes: transparent conversion, transparent identification conversion and Modbus protocol conversion. The jump is worth it when a system must translate between 600-230 Kbps RS-232 traffic and 5 Kbps-1 Mbps CAN bus streams without losing frame structure.
The CAN interface is galvanically isolated from the system and includes lightning protection, allowing continuous operation in electrically noisy installations. Industrial-grade components maintain stable throughput across the full -40 to 85 Celsius temperature span during extended duty cycles.

A rail base is supplied with the converter so it can be clipped directly onto a standard DIN rail inside the enclosure.
The CAN interface uses a terminal block; the CAN-H and CAN-L wires must be landed on the correct terminals and a 120 Ω termination resistor added at each end of the bus.
The unit requires 12 to 36 V DC; keeping the supply near the middle of this range reduces stress on the internal regulator over the -40 to 85 °C temperature span.
