Heavy-duty speaker microphone for two-way radio

The usbroway KMC-45 is a heavy-duty speaker microphone built for two-way radio use. It features a 2.5 mm listen-only miniature earphone jack for private audio monitoring. A swivel belt clip allows flexible attachment during mobile or stationary operation. This unit replaces the discontinued KMC-17 model.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

As a passive audio accessory the microphone draws no independent power and produces no measurable heat or fan noise. Normal operation adds negligible load to the radio battery during transmit and receive cycles. The coiled cable and rugged housing remain cool during extended shift use. No thermal management is required.

Sustained load behaviour under continuous duty

Under sustained transmit cycles the microphone maintains consistent audio pickup without degradation. The military-spec construction resists wear from repeated keying and environmental exposure. The 2.5 mm jack continues to support the KEP-2 earpiece during prolonged sessions. No performance drop-off occurs over long operating periods.

Questions about this item

How do I attach the KMC-45 speaker microphone to my radio and belt without damaging the clip?

Plug the connector firmly into the radio's accessory port until it clicks, then slide the swivel belt clip onto your belt or strap; the swivel action lets the mic rotate so the cable does not twist or pull loose.

Which earpiece works with the 2.5 mm listen-only jack on the KMC-45 for private receive audio?

The manufacturer highlights the KEP-2 earpiece as compatible; plug its 2.5 mm miniature plug into the jack to hear incoming audio privately while the speaker mic remains clipped for transmit.

What part of the KMC-45 is most likely to wear out first during heavy daily use on a worksite?

The coiled cable and its strain relief at the connector see the most flexing; the 2.5 mm earphone jack contacts can also loosen over time if an earpiece is frequently inserted and removed.
