USB-C PD Charge Converter

This adapter converts a USB-C Power Delivery source into the 15 V connection required by several Microsoft Surface devices. It is intended for owners of Surface Pro 3 through 6, Surface Go, Surface Laptop 1 and 2, Surface Book 1 and 2, and Surface Studio who need a replacement or spare charging solution.

Upgrades from proprietary chargers

The converter replaces the original Surface power supply when a 45 W or greater USB-C PD charger with a 15 V / 3 A profile is available. For Surface Pro 6 a 65 W PD source is required, while lower-wattage chargers such as 18 W, 24 W or 29 W units will not deliver reliable power.

Capacity and headroom

The cable negotiates 15 V at up to 3 A, drawing 45 W from compatible 45 W, 65 W or higher PD chargers. It will not operate with chargers limited to 5 V, 9 V or 12 V outputs, and it is not compatible with Surface 7 or 8 models.
