1/2" Red Brass Nipple for Air, Gas, Water & Steam
This 1/2 inch nominal pipe size nipple is made from seamless red brass to ASTM B43 grade. It has an overall length of 10 inches and an outside diameter of 13/16 inch. Male NPT threads on both ends suit Schedule 80 piping systems. It handles air, natural gas, oil, potable water and steam.
Suits Class 300 Systems up to 400°F.
Builders needing a fitting rated for Class 300 compatibility and a maximum operating temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit will find this part appropriate. It withstands 267 psi at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for steam or general pressure duty. Buyers who require gravity flow capability should look at a different design.
267 psi at 450°F Pressure-Temperature Rating
The single specification that determines whether this nipple is the right part is its maximum operating pressure of 267 psi at 450 degrees Fahrenheit. This rating applies to both steam and general service at the stated temperature. Systems demanding a higher pressure ceiling at that temperature need a different component.

Questions about this item
Will the 10 in red brass nipple overheat or vibrate when carrying steam at 267 psi and 450 °F all day?
Rated for continuous steam service at 267 psi and 450 °F, the seamless red brass construction handles the heat without deformation or excess vibration.
Which mating fittings must I already have to install this 1/2 in MNPT nipple?
You need Class 300 female NPT fittings with 1/2 in nominal size to match the male threads on both ends.
Can I thread this Sch 80 nipple into my existing Schedule 40 copper piping?
Yes — the 1/2 in NPT threads are identical, but the Sch 80 wall is thicker so the bore is smaller than Schedule 40.
