4" Chip Brush for Broad Coatings

This 4-inch chip brush uses soft China hair bristles to lay down oil or water-based paints and coatings across concrete, metal or wood. The unfinished wood handle and tin-plated ferrule keep the tool light for long sessions on walls or large flat surfaces. It is built for tradespeople and DIYers who need a low-cost applicator that covers ground quickly.

Check bristle compatibility and surface prep

Verify that natural China hair suits the specific coating you plan to spray or roll, because some modern formulations recommend synthetic filaments instead. Confirm the surface is clean and free of loose material so the 3/8-inch thick bristles can hold and release an even film without dragging debris across the finish.

Replaces worn or undersized brushes on large areas

Swap this in when a narrower brush slows you down on broad wall sections, fences or deck boards and a wider head cuts lap marks and reload trips. The jump is worth it if you regularly coat expansive rough or smooth substrates and want a disposable-grade tool that still delivers a uniform coat.

Questions about this item

Does the 4-inch chip brush come with any extra tools or accessories, or is it just the brush itself?

The listing describes only the brush — 4-inch width, China hair bristles, tin-plated ferrule, unfinished wood handle — with no additional items mentioned.

Should I choose a different bristle material or size for oil-based paints versus water-based paints?

This brush uses natural China hair bristles rated for both oil and water bases, and the 4-inch width suits general chip-brush tasks; other materials or sizes are separate products.

How does the 1 3/4-inch bristle length affect paint pickup and finish on rough concrete?

The 1 3/4-inch soft China hair bristles hold a moderate paint load and flex enough to work into rough concrete while still giving a smooth lay-down on flat surfaces.
