Adds dual SFP+ 10 GbE ports over PCIe 2.0 x8 with Intel 82599ES controller, includes low-profile and full-height brackets
This Value Brand add-on card uses the Intel 82599ES controller to deliver two 10GbE ports over a PCI Express 2.0 x8 slot. It supports SFP+ direct-attach cables, modules and active optical cables. Both a low-profile and a full-height bracket are included for flexible chassis fit. The card targets administrators who need converged networking for iSCSI, NFS and FCoE traffic.
The PCI Express 2.0 x8 interface provides 5.0 G T/s per lane, giving enough bandwidth for dual-port 10GbE line-rate traffic under continuous load. The 82599ES chip handles TCP/IP offload and virtualization queues to keep CPU utilisation low during long transfers. Performance scales with the host platform and driver tuning rather than bursting beyond the bus limit.
The eight-lane 2.0 link caps theoretical throughput below newer 3.0 or 4.0 implementations, so very high packet-rate workloads may saturate the bus before the ports. Legacy operating systems such as Windows Server 2003, 2008 and 2012 releases are supported alongside Linux kernels 2.6 and 3.x, but modern distributions may require manual driver selection. Buyers needing more than two ports or higher single-port speeds should consider alternative form factors.

The card uses a passive heatsink on the 82599ES controller; typical load stays within PCIe 2.0 x8 slot power limits without active cooling.
You need SFP+ direct-attach copper cables, SFP+ optical transceivers or SFP+ active optical cables — all three cabling types are supported by the dual ports.
Yes, a x4 link halves the available bandwidth to 5.0 G T/s per lane, so sustained 10 GbE line rate may not be reached.
