USB-C Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

This velolink adapter adds a wired gigabit network port to any device with a USB-C connector. It suits laptops, tablets, desktops and the Nintendo Switch 2 that lack a built-in RJ45 jack. The aluminium housing weighs 0.02 kilograms and requires no driver on most modern operating systems. Compatibility covers Windows 11 through 8, macOS 10.9 and later, Chrome OS, Linux, iPad OS and Android.

RTL8153B Chip Sustained Throughput

The updated RTL8153B controller maintains a reliable gigabit link during continuous high-speed transfers. Aluminium casing provides heat insulation so performance stays stable over long sessions. Backward compatibility with 100 and 10 megabit networks is automatic. Driver-free operation applies to Windows 11, 10, 8.1 and 8; older or incompatible systems may need the Realtek download.

USB 3.0 Interface Bandwidth Limit

Full 1000 megabit speed is only available when the host port is USB 3.0 or above and a CAT6 or higher cable is used. On USB 2.0 ports the link falls back to 10 or 100 megabit. The adapter does not supply power delivery or video outputs. Buyers who need multi-port hubs, HDMI, VGA or audio connections should choose a different product.

Questions about this item

Does the aluminum casing keep the adapter cool during continuous gigabit use?

The aluminum housing provides heat insulation so the RTL8153B chip stays reliable even at full 1000 Mbps throughput.

Which USB port standard must my laptop have to reach 1 Gbps?

A USB 3.0 or newer port is required; USB 2.0 limits the link to 10/100 Mbit/s.

Will this adapter work alongside my older Cat 5e patch cables?

Yes, it falls back to 100 Mbps or 10 Mbps on Cat 5e; Cat 6 or better is needed for 1 Gbps.
