Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4.5 0.5X Wide Angle Macro Canon EF camera lens

Ultra-Wide Macro Perspective

The Laowa 15mm f/4.5 0.5X Wide Angle Macro lens mounts on Canon EF bodies and covers full-frame sensors with a 110.5 degree angle of view. It delivers 0.5x magnification at a 12.9 cm close-focusing distance, letting photographers place subjects in expansive surroundings. The design suits landscape, architecture and creative close-up work where context matters as much as detail.

Optical Construction and Handling

Sixteen elements in eleven groups include two aspherical, three high-refractive and three extra-low dispersion elements to suppress distortion and chromatic aberration. The barrel weighs 10.86 oz (308 g) and ships with a detachable hood, keeping the package compact for travel or extended handheld sessions. An aperture ring runs from f/4.5 to f/32, enabling ten-point sunstars and precise depth-of-field control without menu diving.

Manual Focus Workflow and Upgrade Path

This lens replaces autofocus wide-angles when macro versatility outweighs AF speed, and it upgrades from simpler manual primes by adding 1:2 magnification with corrected optics. The jump is worth it for shooters who routinely work at 15mm and need close focus without swapping lenses. Buyers who require autofocus or faster maximum apertures for low-light action will not find those capabilities here.
