Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO for Sony E

This lens is built for APS-C Sony E-mount users who want greater than life-size magnification. It reaches 2X reproduction where most alternatives stop at 1.5X, making it suited for detailed insect and plant work as well as portraits and general stills.

Magnification range and focusing limits

The 2:1 maximum magnification works from infinity down to a minimum focusing distance of 6.7 inches (17 cm). That continuous range lets you frame tiny subjects at different sizes without swapping gear, though the APS-C image circle means it will vignette on full-frame bodies.

Installation notes and common issues

The lens mounts directly to any Sony E-mount APS-C camera with no adapter required. The bundle adds a 52 mm filter kit, cleaning supplies, a lens cap tether and a LensPen, so buyers should verify the 52 mm thread matches any additional filters they already own.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 65mm f/2.8 2X macro or a 1.5X alternative for APS-C?

The 65mm f/2.8 reaches 2X life-size magnification while most APS-C macro lenses stop at 1.5X, giving you larger subject reproduction on the sensor.

What does the 2X magnification mean when I am shooting in the field?

At the closest focus distance of 6.7 inches you can fill the frame with a subject half the size of the sensor, capturing detail that a 1X lens would only show at half scale.

How does the Sony E mount APS-C design limit what I can use this lens on?

The lens covers only the APS-C image circle, so it works on Sony E-mount APS-C bodies and in crop mode on full-frame E-mount cameras, but it will vignette if used at full-frame coverage.
