Prime lens for APS-C Nikon Z

The Laowa Argus 33mm f/0.95 CF APO is a manual-focus prime built for APS-C Nikon Z mirrorless bodies. Its ultra-fast f/0.95 aperture suits photographers and videographers who need extreme low-light capability and very shallow depth of field. The apochromatic design targets minimal chromatic aberration for high colour fidelity. It is not for shooters who require autofocus or electronic aperture communication.

Behaviour under sustained use

The all-metal barrel and precise manual helicoid maintain consistent focus and aperture feel during extended photo or video sessions. Clickless aperture control allows smooth iris pulls without mechanical steps. The 35 cm minimum focus distance stays repeatable for close-up work throughout a shoot. No electronic contacts means behaviour never changes with firmware updates.

Thermals noise and power

Passive optical construction produces no heat, fan noise or electrical draw during operation. The 20.81 oz weight adds minimal balance shift on compact APS-C bodies for handheld use. All adjustments are mechanical, so the lens operates silently in any environment. No batteries or external power are required at any time.

Questions about this item

How much heat does the f/0.95 aperture generate during long video sessions?

The lens is passive optical glass with no electronics, so it produces no measurable heat regardless of aperture setting or recording duration.

Which camera bodies and accessories are required to use this Nikon Z-mount lens?

Any Nikon Z-mount APS-C mirrorless body works natively; full-frame Z bodies operate in DX crop mode. No adapter, power supply or firmware update is needed.

Will the 35 cm close-focus distance work with my older manual-focus lenses for focus stacking?

Yes, the 35 cm minimum focus is a physical property of this lens and is independent of any other optics you own; stacking software aligns the frames afterward.
