Vertiv GXT5 72V External Battery Cabinet

This Vertiv GXT5-EBC72VRT2U is a new external battery cabinet designed to extend the runtime of compatible GXT5 uninterruptible power supply systems. It operates at a 72V DC bus voltage and installs in a 2U rack or tower form factor. The unit connects directly to supported UPS models to provide additional backup time during power outages.

Ideal for extending UPS runtime in rack environments

This cabinet suits administrators who need longer battery backup for existing GXT5 72V UPS installations and have 2U of rack space available. It is not intended as a standalone power source and cannot be used with UPS systems that operate at different DC voltages or lack the required external battery connector. Buyers without a compatible Vertiv GXT5 host UPS should look at other solutions.

Questions about this item

How does the 72 V rating translate when the cabinet is connected to a compatible UPS?

The cabinet supplies a nominal 72 V DC bus to the UPS, extending runtime in direct proportion to the load on the inverter.

What connection standard does the cabinet use, and what does it limit?

It uses the proprietary GXT5 battery connector, which keys mechanically to prevent mis-mating and carries the full 72 V DC bus current.
