What this projector is

The ViewSonic PJ400 is a new SVGA business projector built around a 3LCD engine. It produces 1600 lumens of brightness at a native 800 x 600 resolution and a fixed 4:3 aspect ratio. The unit measures 2.90 x 11.20 x 8.00 inches and includes a remote control for convenient operation during presentations.

The specification that decides fit

The native 800 x 600 resolution is the single figure that determines whether this projector matches your content. It accepts input up to larger formats but can only display detail at SVGA level, so text-heavy slides or high-definition video will appear softer than on higher-resolution models.

Who should buy it and who should not

This projector suits users who need a portable 4:3 display for legacy laptops, older presentation decks or basic data projection in small to medium rooms. Buyers who want widescreen native output, higher pixel density for detailed graphics or brighter images for well-lit spaces should look at something else.

Questions about this item

How does the 1600 lumen rating translate to actual screen brightness in a meeting room?

At 1600 lumens the PJ400 delivers a viewable 4:3 image from 40 to 200 inches diagonal; ambient light will reduce perceived brightness so a dimmed room gives the best result.

What video inputs does the projector accept and what resolution do they top out at?

The native panel is 800 x 600 SVGA; any higher-resolution source is scaled to that grid, so fine detail above 800 x 600 is not reproduced.

Will the unit fit on a standard AV cart shelf and what throw range does it need?

The chassis measures 2.90 x 11.20 x 8.00 inches and the lens throws a focused image from 4.8 to 24.3 feet, so a typical cart depth works if the screen is within that distance.
